The phrase Grace in Space came to me during a sitar lesson after learning about microtones. The tones/grace that lives in the space between notes.
The first in a series of rumals inspired by lived experience.
Rumals are handkerchiefs used throughout daily life in South Asia. They carry tears, sweat, small spills, coins, jewelry, prasad, candy, cloves, keys, and tiny keepsakes. The best ones are softened by age and use.
Each rumal is block and hand painted with floral designs, then individually embroidered with Grace in Space. Fabric patterns vary, and thread colors are chosen to complement each piece, making every rumal slightly different.
Keep yours in your bag, place it on a vanity, wrap it around small treasures, carry it as a personal keepsake, frame it, lay it across your pillow, or sneak it into a friend’s bag.
Each rumal arrives crisp and softens beautifully with washing and use. Do not treat it as too precious. Give it life. Allow it to patina and beautify with use.
