Himalayan Cedar (Cedrus deodara)
Devadāru is known as the wood of the gods !
and it’s also known as Himalayan Cedar. Devadāru wood is one of the sacred botanicals infused into our oil, bringing its grounding and steadying presence to our offering.
Its wood grows throughout the high forests of the Himalayas and contains naturally occurring compounds that have been studied for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and analgesic activity.
Ayurveda traditionally considers Devadāru warming, penetrating, and grounding. It’s meant to be supportive and offer structure in our oil where you feel heaviness and stagnation. Like a warm, deep hug.
Spiritually, cedar is used for purification of sacred spaces. Its deep, resinous fragrance is believed to settle the mind and to create a clear atmosphere for inward attention. His scent is very active in The Beloved.
As “the wood of the gods,” Devadāru carries the symbolism of the mountain! Steadiness, protection, elevation and connection to the divine.
My great grandfather and grandfather below feel like the spirit of this to me.
