Oyster shell (ostrea species)

Oyster Shell, or Ostrea species, is a mineral medicine used in Ayurveda as Shukti Bhasma, a purified preparation of the shell, made by incinerating the shell into a fine ash and giving it new life. It’s the house of the pearl, the mineral body that protects softness until it becomes luminous.

Shukti Bhasma is rich in calcium carbonate and has traditionally been used to cool excess heat, soothe acidity and support mineral nourishment. It’s often used when the body feels overheated, depleted, inflamed or stripped of its inner softness.

Spiritually, it feels like the ocean learning how to create structure. The shell is what the soft body builds around itself so it can survive the pressure of the world without becoming hard in spirit.
